As part of our ongoing #SupportLocal campaign, we’ve rounded up some of the ways to have a frightfully good time this year, from following the Mackem Monster Hunt to tucking into some creepy cupcakes.
1. Mackem Monster Hunt, city centre
The Mackem Monsters have been crawling over city centre rooftops for the past few days - and they're causing quite a stir. Download the Sunderland Experience app on the app store and follow the trail to find the six inflatable monsters, as well as the seven augmented reality monsters lurking in the virtual world. The trail is running until November 1. Photo: JPI Media
2. Glass pumpkin demos, National Glass Centre
Watch the skill of the National Glass Centre Hot Glass Studio team as they make beautiful glass objects, including glass pumpkins especially for Halloween. Each piece they make is also available to buy. Booking is available on the day at the Visitor Services Desk. You are not able to pre-book for these demonstrations. The demos take place each day until October 30 at 11am, noon, 2pm, and 3pm. Photo: submitted
3. Pumpkin Spice frappe at Grinder
Support a local business whilst enjoying a taste of Halloween. Pumpkin spice frappes are just some of the treats available at Grinder coffee shop in Durham Road. Their cake counters change regularly with cookies, blondies, pink slices and more from local suppliers. They also sell a great range of gifts from other local businesses, including pottery and candles. Photo: submitted
4. Vegan spooky doughnuts, CoffeeHaus, city centre
Tuck into some frightfully good doughnuts at the new CoffeeHaus coffee shop in John Street. The business is only open for take out for now, but you can pick up a quality coffee as well as a vegan Halloween doughnut, made by Glazed Handmade Donuts, on October 30 from 8am to 4pm, while stocks last. On Halloween itself, they'll be running a trick or treat offer, opening hours on Saturdays are 10am to 5pm. Photo: submitted
