The owners of Holmeside Coffee have announced that the business will close its doors in January, with an exact date to be announced.
Opening in 2013, the coffee shop started life at Independent night club in Holmeside, hence its name, before moving to the former Eden cafe in Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens in 2018.

In May, a spin off business, The Little Shop, was launched in the former Holmeside takeout site in High Street West, selling craft ales, organic wines, artisan doughnuts and more, and that business will continue to trade. People will still be able to order takeout Holmeside Coffee from the site too.
Joe Collins, who runs Holmeside, says the closure was decided before the pandemic.
A statement on the business’s Facebook page reads: “All good things must come to end. After seven years Holmeside Coffee will close this coming January (exact date to be announced).

I would like to thank all of our hard working staff who’ve supported myself and Holmeside through all of its years especially those who remain with us in our final chapter.
"We’ll continue to bring good times for our last remaining months. The Little Shop in the culture quarter will be open for all of your coffee needs. We wish Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens the best for their next tenant and a big thanks for letting us occupy this space for the past three years. Joe & Holmeside Coffee.”
Many people have taken to the business’s social media pages to say how much it will be missed.
Kenny Sanger wrote: “Such a shame, the Winter Gardens has been a much brighter place with HC inside it.”
