Vicky Thompson, who runs Kalma Baby South Tyneside, has transformed her conservatory into a home yoga studio so she can continue to provide her baby, toddler and junior yoga sessions to assist with families’ wellbeing while they remain at home.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced strict new measures on Monday, March 23 in an address to the nation – including orders for families to remain at home and leave only for essential shopping, unavoidable travel to and from work, one bout of exercise per day and to tend to medical needs.

She said: “Our wonderful loyal customers have been so supportive, filled with well wishes and love! So grateful they are able to get their yoga fix.
“Through this dark and uncertain time we are so thankful to be able to offer this service to support parental and children’s mental health and wellbeing.”
Vicky, of Harton, started running baby yoga classes in 2014 while she was on maternity leave.

The online sessions have been delivered with the support of colleagues Lauren Usher and Jessica Spottiswood.
“When we were told about the social distancing measures we knew we had a role to be responsible to keep everyone safe and turn our classes to a remote service,” Vicky added.
“With the amazing Kalma team we all worked so hard behind the scenes to bring the sessions online within a matter of hours. Not one class was missed by our parents and children.”
A free family yoga session will take place at 1.30pm on Friday, March 27 via the Kalma Baby South Tyneside Facebook page. Virtual classes are bookable online here.
