Sunderland Covid map shows how well city has done in fighting virus
The most recent figures show 47 people tested positive for the virus in the local authority in the seven days up to May 1.
With a rolling rate of 16.9 per 100,000 people, Sunderland is just slightly above the UK average and the Government’s Covid map show just four areas where more than two Covid cases have been confirmed.

Hide AdPennywell and Grindon has the highest rolling rate in the local authority at 100.3 cases per 100,000 people – with a total of nine people testing positive.
In Thorney Close and Plains Farm five people tested positive, while three people test positive in Pallion North and a further three in the Concord and Sulgrave ward.
In surrounding areas of Sunderland, three people tested positive for coronavirus in South Murton and South Hetton while four more people were confirmed as having the virus in Peterlee South.
Sunderland City Council has continued to remind the public that while Covid figures are continuing to fall, city residents need to continue to follow the rules set out by the Government.

On Monday, April 12, a wave of restrictions were eased allowing gyms, hairdressers and non-essential retailers to reopen as well as enabling cafes restaurants and beer gardens to serve customers outdoors.

Hide AdThe third stage of the Government’s roadmap is scheduled for Monday, May 17, which will see pubs and restaurants open indoors and restrictions on social contact eased.
