1. Grindon in 1954
The first residents were just weeks away from moving into Sunderland's concrete houses in 1954. Sunderland Corporation planned to build 110 concrete houses on its newest estate, Grindon Village, to combat a brick shortage which threatened to slow down the housing programme. Remember this?
