Independent Sunderland city centre coffee shop announces closure
The Blandford Street business, which is independently owned, had reopened on July 4 with social distancing measures in place to limit the spread of the disease. However, the owners found the business was no longer viable with the new measures in place.
A statement on the coffee shop’s Facebook page reads: “It is with deep regret that we have had to close the doors of Coffea Caban.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kind words, support and custom throughout the years, particularly more so during these last few months.
“We wish all our customers well and hope you all stay safe. We want to thank the staff for their hard work over the years and wish them the best in their future endeavours.”
Hundreds have commented on the post to express their thanks for the cafe’s service over the years.
Last month, it was announced that Bonded Warehouse in the Fish Quay would also close its doors permanently, with the events space no longer able to host its usual functions and gigs. The owners, who are also behind the successful Fat Hippo brand, said that the pandemic has taken its toll and they will not be reopening.
