Butcher expands delivery service after seeing customers flock to small businesses during lockdown
Fulwell Butchers’ services have proved popular in lockdown thanks to its Stay at Home boxes, Meat Packs and more.
Now the butchers and deli in Sea Road has started an online service at www.fulwellbutchers.com so that people can order everything from raw meat to pastries and desserts, with contactless payment for delivery or collection.

Hide AdDelivery is free for orders over £10 and the staff at the shop deliver across Sunderland, Boldon, Cleadon and Whitburn.
Owner Christian Carney says he’s noticed that more people are turning to their independent businesses, where the amount of people allowed in a shop at one time is limited, for a safer shopping experience than the supermarkets.
“People have definitely turned to local shops at this time,” he explained. “For a while local high streets lost trade over supermarkets, but Sea Road has definitely had more footfall, despite only having one person in the shop at a time, during lockdown.”
It comes as the Sunderland Echo is running our #SupportLocal campaign aimed at promoting the amazing things our local businesses are doing at this difficult time.

Christian said: “People really seem to appreciate the service we offer. We deliver to a lot of elderly people and they’re very grateful for the deliveries.”
