Ex-Sunderland striker Darren Bent is expected to be involved for Burton, who go into the game on the back of the 3-1 win over Derby County.
Tom Naylor (thigh strain), Marvin Sordell (ankle) and Damien McCrory (hamstring) are also doubts.
Clough added: “We only had 12 or 13 training Tuesday.
“There was a few more Wednesday and we are waiting on Tom, Damien and Marvin.

“We are also hoping that everyone will come through who played last Saturday.
“Ben Turner and Kyle McFadzean got knocks so there are one or two carrying things. Jacob Davenport came off with a knock as well.
“We will have to see how they are.”
Basement side Sunderland could be relegated if they drop points against second bottom Burton, also in danger of League One football next season.
