Hide AdSouth Tyneside Magistrates’ Court considered the offences serious enough to warrant a jail term because of his “total disregard for public safety and disregard for court orders”.
The court also cited his “previous convictions and propensity to commit offences of this nature” and his failure to co-operate with the compilation of a pre-sentence report.
The test found that the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 108 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Potts was also banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay a £129 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
