Man appears before court charged over suspected stabbing at Sunderland's Wheatsheaf pub

It followed an incident at the Wheatsheaf pub in Monkwearmouth at around 10.15pm on Tuesday, May 18, when police received reports of a group of men fighting inside the bar.

Hide AdNo pleas were entered by the 34-year-old and the case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court, which is within the same building, with the next hearing be held on Thursday, June 17.
Two other men, aged 23 and 37, were arrested by Northumbria Police as part of inquiries, with the elder man released on police bail as investigations continue and the younger man released with no further action to be taken against him.
Officers have previously said he remained in hospital in a non-life threatening condition and an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Hide AdNorthumbria Police is continuing to appeal to anyone with information to get in touch and has said it is believed parties involved are known to each other.
The North East Ambulance Service said it was called to patient who appeared to have been assaulted and sent a paramedic and a Hazardous Area Response Team (Hart) to the scene.
Its crews offered the man treatment to arm and body injuries before taking him to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
The pub confirmed via social media it would remain closed on Wednesday and has since posted to say it has reopened to customers.
