Man dies after fall from Wearmouth Bridge

Emergency services were called to the bridge at around 7am on Sunday, January 19, after receiving a report of concern for a man.

Hide AdA Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 7am yesterday (Sunday), police received a report of a concern for a man on the Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland.
“Officers attended after reports a man had fallen from the bridge.
“The man was pulled from the river and taken to hospital where he sadly passed away.
“Inquiries are ongoing to formally identify the man.”
Crews from Sunderland Coastguard and Sunderland Inshore Rescue Team also attended the incident and carried out a search of the area.

Hide AdVolunteers from the Sunderland RNLI say they were able to recover the casualty onto the lifeboat and administer emergency care.
The person was taken to Sunderland Marina by boat, where they were then treated by paramedics.
North East Ambulance Service confirmed that it was called at 6.53am to reports of a person in the water at in the Wearmouth Bridge area.
The service sent three crews from its Hazardous Response Team and one ambulance to the scene, before one person was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.
