Police provide an update following response at Argyle Square in Ashbrooke

Officers were called to the street in Ashbrooke at around 11.30am on Monday, May 24, after receiving information that a vehicle believed to be associated with a burglary was reported at the location.
Police attended and ‘uplifted’ the vehicle, prompting a man to show threatening behaviour towards officers.

Hide AdNorthumbria Police have confirmed on Tuesday, May 25, that both have been released from police custody on bail as officers continue to carry out their inquires.
Uniformed officers wearing protective equipment could be seen outside an address on the street, along with a variety of police vehicles and dog handlers.
Resident Patrick James, who watched the events unfold, told the Echo: "I saw the gentleman behind the wall, shouting at the coppers and waving his arms about.

Hide Ad"About 20 minutes later, the police officer turned up with the battering ram and went into Argyle Square."
Speaking after the incident, a spokesperson for the force said: "At about 11.30am today (Monday), officers received information that a vehicle believed to be associated with a burglary suspect was parked in the Argyle Square area of Sunderland.
"Police attended the location and uplifted the vehicle. An individual inside an address began to make threats and show threatening behaviour towards officers.
"A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray.”
