Northumbria Police are also working alongside partners to raise awareness of what can be done to respect the countryside and help tackle rural crime.
As well as concerns over poaching, officers have also received reports of dog walkers trespassing on private farmland and causing injury and stress to livestock which can result in sheep miscarrying or needing to be put down due to injury.

“We appreciate the invaluable support we receive from our rural communities and our partners in helping to tackle crimes such as poaching and trespassing.
“We have seen an increasing number of people enjoying the countryside, and the vast majority are doing so in a responsible way. However, I would ask people to be mindful of where they go, ensuring they do not enter private land or farm areas and that they do not put livestock at risk.
“I would urge anyone who has concerns or if they see anything suspicious to contact police.”

Hide AdNorthumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, Kim McGuinness, added: “I know trespassing is a real worry for many of our farmers because of the stress it causes to their animals and the problems this brings.
“The vast majority of people out walking their dogs, enjoying our region's beautiful countryside, are considerate and responsible. There are others though, who are choosing to let their dogs off their leads near to livestock and this can cause all sorts of suffering that's easily avoidable.
Anyone who sees anything suspicious or has any information that may help police with tackling rural crime is asked to report this via the online reporting form on the Northumbria Police website or by calling 101.
