Louis Whelan, 20, of Saltburn Road, Springwell, Sunderland, swiped the £200 items and hauled them back to his nearby home, a court heard.
In the same escapade in Solway Gardens on May 13, he swiped another householder’s garden ornaments – but was spotted in the act by one victim who called police.

“His memory was hazy due to a concoction of substances.
“The defendant is no stranger to the court although his last similar offence was in 2015 as a youth.”
