Teenage driver locked up after police find class A drugs following routine stop

Officers found bags of MDMA inside Jack Stevens’s car after they flagged him down over concerns about his driving.
Police have now greeted the resulting custodial sentence of more then two-and-a-half years handed out by a judge by saying: ““Illegal and potentially dangerous drugs such as MDMA are not welcome in County Durham.”

Hide AdDurham Constabulary say their traffic officers stopped Stevens’ Ford Fiesta on the A181, in Wingate, after becoming concerned about his manner of driving.
While searching his vehicle, they found just under 20g of white powder and a green tablet.
This was subsequently tested in a laboratory and found to be MDMA.
Nineteen-year-old Stevens, of nearby Shotton Colliery, was arrested and later charged with possession of a class A drug with intent to supply.

Hide AdHe has now pleaded guilty to the offence after appearing at Durham Crown Court and was sentenced to 32 months in a young offenders’ institute.
Stevens was also ordered to pay a £181 victim surcharge.
A Durham Police spokesperson said after the case: “Stevens was initially stopped as his manner of driving was suspicious and a full search of his car then resulted in a number of snap seal bags of MDMA being found.
“Illegal and potentially dangerous drugs such as MDMA are not welcome in County Durham and Darlington and we will take action to take these drugs off our streets.”
