It will be a three-storey building and used for retail, business and financial services.
The application stated: “This application proposes the development of a new A1/A2 and office development in the town centre.
“It is an important development in its own right, and beneficial for the town of South Shields.

“More importantly, it compliments the statement of intent by South Tyneside Council in the continual regeneration of the town.
“The provision of 5 Keppel Street alongside the Interchange will begin the regeneration of the town centre and establish the principle objectives of the 365 Masterplan.”
This new build, if given approval, will be right next to the town’s future transport interchange – which is earmarked for the Post Office site.
