Emergency services called to incident at the Queen Alexandra Bridge

Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteers from Sunderland’s Lifeboat Station were called to the Queen Alexandra Bridge just after 4pm on Friday, March 12.
The crew were requested to launch their RNLI D class lifeboat to assist other emergency services at the scene of the incident.

Hide AdIt is understood that the RNLI volunteers were stood down after two hours later as the incident had been resolved.
A Sunderland RNLI spokesperson said: “Our volunteers were requested to launch our RNLI D class lifeboat to assist other emergency services with an incident on the River Wear in the vicinity of the Queen Alexandra Bridge.
“Our crew quickly launched the lifeboat and arrived at the scene.
The nature of the incident is unknown at this time.
