Leaves cause disruption for Metro commuters
Bosses issued a warning to commuters to head out for an earlier train due to low rail adhesion.
The issue is caused by leaves falling onto the tracks, in particular during damp or wet weather, which are then compressed by the wheels causing a greasy ‘mulch’ to cover the rail.

Hide AdThis reduces the adhesion between the wheels and the rails causing trains to decrease their acceleration to prevent the wheels from slipping. Braking distances are also extended causing trains to run slower than normal.
According to Nexus, leaf disruption affects train companies globally.
