Parents of battling Sunderland boy raise cash for caring medics
Martin Dawes and Vicky Curry embarked on a £20,000 fundraising mission for Sunderland Royal Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which looked after their baby son Theo Dawes.
Last month, the pair held two charity events at The Alexandra, in Grangetown, in the hope of raising as much as possible for the unit.

Theo was born ten weeks prematurely on October 13 weighing just 2lb as a result of complications during Vicky’s pregnancy.
While in hospital, he was kept in a special incubator and received respiratory care as a result of his lungs being premature and weak.
But now safely back home, his parents have organised further events to raise further funds to buy a new incubator and equipment for the ward.

Hide AdSpeaking on the success of the fundraising, Vicky, 38, said: “It went really well, we had some good numbers and received some great feedback about both of the events.
“The kids event was amazing, thanks to Maria from a company called Nuby who paid for a group called ‘Make My Day Events’ to come to the daytime event and dress up as super heros and perform a music and dance show for the kids.”
“We have also received enquiries from four different people who will be doing sponsored walks for Theo. “One is a group called Project Fundraisers who intend to raise funds for both Bradley Lowery and our charity fundraiser.
“One person will also be running in the Great North Run and another fundraiser has said they will do the London Marathon to help us raise funds for the unit too.
“We are so pleased with this amazing support.”
