From healthcare workers and delivery drivers, to supermarket staff and teachers; Sunderland has so many incredible people to be proud of. You have been sharing your stories about the people who mean the most to you. Here, we meet 20 of the city’s key worker heroes.
1. Brogan Lee
Stephanie Smith: She is a nurse working on the Covid-19 ward. She made an appeal for toiletries for patients on her ward, then on her days off she has driven about collecting everyone’s donations and managed to make over 100 care packs which she has delivered to not only the wards on the hospitals but to some care homes too. 2. Lesley Appleby
Laura Ann Turnbull: Lesley is not only one of our best friends but she has helped us in a way a friend should never have to. After my husband got diagnosed with Leukaemia at the start of this year he was placed on Lesley’s ward and she has been undoubtedly the best nurse we could have ever asked for! Photo: UGC
3. Annie Magbanua
Dianne Pattison: My wonderful friend and neighbour Annie, who has had a tough time herself this past six months after losing her mum. She saved the life of my little boy in 2018 and I will always be grateful to her. She is one of the most beautiful, selfless, courageous people I know. A true hero with the biggest heart and we love her loads. Photo: UGC
4. Andy Oliver
Jolene Casey: Andy is the sort of person who will work any shifts. You can call on him at short notice. He's kind, caring and I think a selfless person. I also feel he's an unsung hero and it would be lovely for him to be nominated. Photo: UGC
