“Enquiries are ongoing to trace the owner and ensure the animal is returned to safety.”
The bull, dubbed Bruce by the police, is thought to have made its way down Hylton Road – having caused traffic delays including the University of Sunderland minibus service who tweeted about the event saying: “We are experiencing some delays on the SU minibus service this afternoon due to a rogue Highland cow on the loose near Aldi (no, honestly!).”
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service later tweeted: “Crews from Sunderland came across an escaped highland cow today in the St Marks Road area of Sunderland. We carefully guided the cow into a secure location along with @northumbriapol until the arrival of the owner with a horse box.”
