Foster mum takes on challenge to care for Romanian street dogs as she calls for support to save their lives

She is working alongside A Promise to Felix Dog Rescue, which is named after the first dog saved by the organisation.

Hide AdIt is caring for animals living in the Balkan country and has plans to build a kennels to keep them sheltered before they are then sent on to foster homes ahead and then rehomed.
Andrea, 46, and Marc, 52, have already cared for their first case, a dog called Casper, who is now living with his new owners.
Andrea, who has fostered children for six years, said: “In Romania, dogs are thought of as vermin and there is a lady who goes around and saves them from the kill shelter, but she’s working to get a kennels built so she's raising £10,000.
"We got our first foster dog when he was five-months-old and he had been driven three days to get to Sunderland and then we looked after him before he was adopted.

Hide Ad"He arrived in a van at 2.30am and all these dogs had been kept in cages.
"Before they leave, they get all their injections and health certificates and then they are adopted here for a £300 fee.
"A check is made first to see what the home is like, if there are children, cats or other dogs.
"I’m very picky, so I carry out a full home check and we do a meet and greet.

Andrea was inspired to help after she and Marc, a health and safety manager for Biffa, took on Alfie, a partially sighted dog, who they took on from Wales after it was a struggle to find him an owner due to his disability.
