Anthony Dunn from Millfield has been self-isolating throughout the pandemic and has been supported regularly by the city’s Young Asian Voices (YAV) charity who’ve been delivering his shopping.
For his 75th birthday, the charity decided to go the extra mile by arranging for a special doorstep delivery.

Kumareswaradas Ramanathas (Ram), manager at YAV, said: “Our Young Asian Voices Charity volunteers wanted to surprise Anthony and make it a special day for him by taking usual weekly shopping along with a special birthday cake provided by BakingStop. We also had special guests singing happy birthday to him.”
He added: “We hope we made his day with the surprise by celebrating his birthday and affirming that he is not alone. It has been a tremendous event and I am thankful to everyone who has been part and parcel to this memorable day.”
It comes as the Echo is running its #ActsofKindness campaign to highlight the great work being done to support our communities during this time.
