£1million to help enforce coronavirus restrictions in Northumberland
On Tuesday, September 22, the Prime Minister announced that £60million would be made available to local authorities and the police to support additional compliance and enforcement activities.
And the allocations have been revealed, with £924,096 earmarked for Northumbria Police, the force responsible for Northumberland as well as Tyne and Wear. The cash will be used across the force area.

Hide AdThe funding will be provided to police only for use in relation to coronavirus enforcement, with forces required to provide the Home Office with plans to demonstrate how the money is being used to tackle non-compliance with public-health rules.
Meanwhile, a Northumberland County Council spokeswoman has explained how the authority plans to use its share of £165,529.
“We are working on the details and developing new roles that can provide a range of advice and support to residents,” she said.
“This may include signposting businesses and members of the public to follow Government guidance, visiting businesses to check compliance with Covid-19 secure measures, encouraging social distancing in busy, public areas and directing pedestrians where necessary.

“Meanwhile, our environmental health team are also increasing their capacity to work closely with, in particular, the hospitality trade on compliance with regulations in force in our region.”
