Sunderland pair influential as England U21s all but clinch Toulon Tournament final date
Sunderland's Duncan Watmore was involved in two goals as England Under-21s all but secured a place in the Toulon Tournament final with a convincing 4-0 win over Paraguay Under-23s.
He combined with Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek to set up Lewis Baker for the opener, then made a strong run to give midfielder Loftus-Cheek his second goal of the night for a 3-0 lead. Nathan Redmond added the fourth.
Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford returned in goal to keep a second clean sheet in his two Toulon appearances.
Only defeat to Japan in their last group game tomorrow and a huge swing in goal difference can now deny Gareth Southgate’s side a place in Sunday’s final in Avignon.
