Flooding at Herrington Country Park as downpours continue across Sunderland

Areas of Herrington County Park are under water following days of wet weather, with its road to the lower car park closed off to vehicles as the route ahead is submerged under water today, Thursday, February 4.
It’s lake has burst its banks, while parking areas have become ponds as the ground became waterlogged following conditions which led to the closure of part of the A19 and a flooding incident in Houghton yesterday.

Hide AdMeanwhile, due to weather conditions yesterday, Murton is continuing to see the impact of the rain, with traffic unable to use the B1285 between the village and the junction with Murton Lane at Easington Lane and leading on to Colliery Lane in Hetton.
Go North East has said its services 202 and 265 are unable to serve stops on that section of road and has asked passengers to catch their buses from Easington Lane or the Station Estate in Murton,
The Met Office forecast predicts the rain will continue until Tuesday, with yellow weather warnings in place for rain and then ice and snow until then.
It says after a rainy day today, tonight will be largely dry, but there will be outbreaks of rain towards midnight and then into the morning.

Hide AdTomorrow, it will remain cloudy and windy with further rain turning wintry over higher ground later in the day as it becomes colder once again.
The outlook for Saturday to Monday is cloudy and windy Saturday with showery outbreaks of rain and hill snow.
