Woman cut free from car after sustaining 'multiple injuries' in crash between East Durham villages

The Coast Road between Blackhall and Horden was closed off by Durham Constabulary for around three hours following the single-vehicle smash last night, Monday, February 22.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene at 6.50pm and sent two appliances from its station in Peterlee.

Hide AdCrews used tools to remove the door and roof of the vehicle and release the driver inside.
They were then taken to hospital for further treatment.
A spokesperson for the police added: “We were called at approximately 6.20pm last night to a single vehicle road traffic collision on the coast road between Horden and Blackhall.
"Officers attended and found a Fiat car with a single occupant had collided with a traffic barrier, causing damage to the vehicle.
"The driver, a woman who is believed to be in her 40s, was cut free by the fire service and was taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the scene at 6.19pm and sent a double-crewed ambulance and a specialist paramedic.
They worked alongside their emergency service colleagues to treat the woman, who had sustained multiple injuries in the collision, and then take her to the hospital in Middlesbrough.
