New details of Strawberry Place development revealed a year after approval amid objections from Newcastle United fans
A £120million scheme for land next to the stadium, sold to developers for £9million by Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, was approved a year ago despite a large number of objections from of fans.
Many supporters argued that the high-rise development would change the city’s iconic skyline – and stop future expansion of that end of the ground.

Hide AdThe High Street Group development, called One St James’, includes a 200-room hotel. The Radisson RED Newcastle will open in 2023, and it will feature a “stylish sky bar” and an “open alfresco space on the roof”.
Radisson Hotel Group’s executive vice president and chief development officer Elie Younes said: “We are very excited to be part of the incredible cultural scene in Newcastle, bringing fun with a fresh, upscale hotel brand to the city centre. Radisson RED and Newcastle are a fantastic match.”
