"Sunderland are a Premier League side in stature, and we will need to produce the highest standard of performance to try and secure a result.”
Meanwhile, Barnsley boss Valerien Ismael has hinted that Sunderland-linked winger Luke Thomas could be allowed to head out on loan this month.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a temporary move to the Stadium of Light, with Ipswich Town and Oxford United also credited with an interest.

“We will see,” said the Barnsley boss when asked about Thomas’ situation.
"He is one player for sure that wants to play more.
“Yes, he has the quality, he’s shown the quality but he’s a young guy, he has to learn a lot. We will see what happens next week.”
