The 32-year-old sees his current contract at the Stadium of Light expire in the summer, and revealed last week that talks are yet to resume over an extension to his terms.

"There’s nothing in it,” Ross told the Daily Record, when quizzed on the rumours.
“Jon was brilliant for me as a person and player.
"His contract is up at the end of the season but Jon has done really well enough in the last 18 months to ensure he won’t be short of offers and as I have said already our goalkeeping situation should be pretty straight forward.”
McLaughlin was linked with a host of Championship clubs – including local rivals Middlesbrough – over the summer.

“From my side, we have no idea [where the contract talks are at] and we have no control over that,” McLaughlin said.
“At the start of the summer it looked very positive.
“It looked like they really wanted to get something done but it’s gone very quiet very quickly.”
