Davison is a lifelong supporter of the club and joins after a 35-year stint at engineering consultancy compancy Atkins.
It is a major appointment behind the scenes at the Stadium of Light.

Hide AdDavison has been tasked with 'spearheading SAFC’s business operations, overseeing and leading all non-football related functions at the Stadium of Light.'
A club statement said that Davison 'has specialised in business improvement and innovation, with data and technology at the forefront of his success.'
Davison said: “As a Sunderland supporter, I recognise the integral role that the club plays within the city and the community. "Understanding that unique relationship will be pivotal as we rebuild and reconnect, whilst implementing a long-term strategy that ensures sustainable and lasting success throughout each area of the club.”
Chief Executive Officer, Jim Rodwell, added: “I am delighted to welcome Steve to Sunderland AFC.

Sunderland have begun a major restructure across the club as Kyril Louis-Dreyfus prepares to become majoity shareholder.
Kristjaan Speakman was appointed as Sporting Director last month, with Lee Johnson joining as head coach.
