The new campaign will take a big step forward next week with the release of the fixture list. It has been confirmed by the EFL things will get underway on 12 September with the Carabao Cup scheduled to begin the previous week. Sunderland will have to contend with ELEVEN midweek fixture cards with the regular season finishing in the second week of May.
One thing for sure, between then and now it is going to be an eventful summer at the Stadium of Light.

3. Sunderland near goalkeeper signing
Sunderland are closing in on the signing of goalkeeper Remi Matthews. The 26-year-old is a free agent having left Bolton Wanderers. He had been training with league rivals Ipswich Town.
