Sunderland face three games in the next seven days and – while the transfer hunt may well continue next week with the free agent market still open – signings will take a back seat for the time being.
Parkinson’s focus will instead be on selecting a squad for the trip to Swindon Town and beyond.
But that begs the question, what is the Black Cats’ first-choice squad from their current group of players.
We’ve had a guess at what Parkinson would consider his best side below, based on when every player is fit and available. Scroll down, click through the pages and see if you agree with us:
1. GK: Lee Burge
Burge has established himself as the Black Cats' number one following Jon McLaughlin's summer departure, and has featured in every League One game so far this campaign. Photo: Frank Reid
2. CB: Jordan Willis
The centre back quickly became one of the first names on the teamsheet following his arrival from Coventry City at the start of last season - and remains an integral part of the squad under Phil Parkinson. Photo: Frank Reid
3. CB: Bailey Wright
Sunderland's defensive record with the Australian, compared to without, paints a clear picture as to how vital Wright is for the side. He'll certainly be a key player if the Black Cats are to mount a promotion push this term. Photo: Frank Reid
4. CB: Tom Flanagan
The Northern Irish international will miss Sunderland's next game through suspension, but is near-certain to return to the back three once he returns having built-up a strong rapport with Willis and Wright. Photo: Frank Reid
