With the Black Cats desperate for victory in order to seal their place in the play-offs, the head coach will undoubtedly be considering some tactical and personnel changes ahead of the trip to Home Park.
Sunderland lost to Plymouth earlier this season and will be under no illusions as to the scale of the challenge awaiting them in the South West.
But with Conor McLaughlin in-line to return for the fixture, there are a number of potential switches that could be made by the Black Cats as they look to build-up some momentum ahead of a potential play-off tilt.
So what team do our writers feel should start at Plymouth?
Here, Mark Donnelly selects his team to face the Pilgrims – with THREE changes from the side that were beaten by Blackpool in midweek.
1. GK: Lee Burge
There was little the stopper could do about Sulley Kaikai's stunning strike on Tuesday evening, and he is likely to continue between the sticks at Home Park. Photo: FRANK REID 2020
2. RB: Max Power
While the return of Conor McLaughlin could allow Power to be pushed further up the field, I would resist that temptation - in favour of freeing-up another makeshift defender... Photo: FRANK REID 2019
3. CB: Conor McLaughlin
Should the Northern Irish international be fit enough to start in the South West, he could replace Luke O'Nien in the heart of the defence. That in turn would allow the ex-Wycombe man to wield his energy and influence further up the field. Photo: FRANK REID 2020
4. CB: Bailey Wright
While the Australian has played a large number of games since his injury, he could well be asked to feature one more time at Plymouth - with the hopes he could then be given some much-needed rest should a play-off place be secured. Photo: Stu Forster
